“Don’t fill our bottles with bad water!” – Thais tell Cambodians at border
ARANYAPRATHET:– Some 100,000 litres of bottled water are going across the border to Cambodia at Aranyaprathet every day for Thailand’s neighbours to celebrate Songkran.
A severe water shortage is being blamed for the water travelling across from Rong Klua market to Poi Pet, reports Thairath.
But Thai authorities have also complained to their Cambodian counterparts that thousands of empty bottles in packs are also being transported across – to be filled with local water by unscrupulous traders in Poi Pet market.
They are concerned about the cleanliness of the Cambodian water passed off as Thai.
Thai officials said that many Cambodians do not use a great deal of water to celebrate their version of Songkran and bottled water is desired.
Authorities manning the border have seen huge quantities of bottled water and tanks of water crossing in cars and two wheel carts piled as high as lorries.
Cambodian officials, in a spirit of new year friendliness told the Thai authorities they would check up on what was happening to the empty bottles carried across to Poi Pet.
