At 5m this morning almost 150 drug dealers and users were arrested during a dawn raid at 125 locations in 23 districts of Nakhon Si Thammarat during a pre-dawn anti-drugs sweep when more than 420 military police officers launched simultaneous raids.
The operation was mainly targeted at street-level drug dealers in areas that included the one near the Nakon Si Thammarat station in tambon Klung of Muang district where Wanchai Saengkhao, the man who has admitted to the rape and murder of a 13 year old girl on a train said that he brought two methamphtaine pills prior to his attack on the overnight train from Surat Thani to Bangkok last week.
Accoding to Pongsapat Pongcharoen, the deputy national police chief the train station community was a distribution hub for ya ba tablets in the area. Local drug dealer Jinda “Jae Da” Pantharak, accused of selling the ya ba to Mr Wanchai, was also apprehended in the raid.
Pol Gen Pongsapat, who lost his job as Office of the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general early this month, said the pre-dawn raids exhibited satisfying results and officers were able to seize a large amount of methamphetamine pills, drug paraphernalia and weapons.
