A team of police and local administration officials rounded up over 20 Chinese nationals in Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakarn province for having forged Thai national identification cards.
The arrest of these Chinese men and women followed the arrest of a Thai state employee of the Ladluang Municipality in Phra Pradaeng, Ms Pilaiporn Phoothong, for preparing fake documents to apply ID cards for these Chinese people.
She could help to issue Thai ID cards with Thai names and family names for 29 Chinese, thus enabling them to work as guides and to operate tourism business in Thailand.
Tourism Police Division commander Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakparn said the police began investigating after Phra Pradaeng recorded unusually high cases of nationalisation of Chinese people.
The probe discovered forgery of documents and Ms Pilaiporn was suspected and responsible for the nationalisation process for the Chinese, he added.
She would face several charges for the forgery of documents and also face seizure of her assets.
The Chinese would face charge for using forged documents to apply for ID cards, and several relevant charges.
