Airports of Thailand (AOT) is set to purchase new CTX explosive detection device to modernize the security measures.
AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn has revealed that AOT will be procuring new CTX9000 explosive detection devices to replace the current ones, which have been in use at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for 10 years.
He has said that the costs for device maintenance and overhaul are very high, placing the option of purchasing new device the economical decision. New devices will also be more up to date system and is more appropriate for the current situation.
AOT will have to propose this matter to its board in order to verify the 100 million baht budget in addition to the main budget of the 2016 fiscal year. Procurement studies indicate a time frame of 1 year and 5 months for the purchase of this equipment, while the actual purchase is expected in 2017.
In addition, the AOT board meeting has also approved to change the company tasked with the maintenance of the CTX machine. The CTX manufacturers have approved and presented the company that will provide maintenance, operating under a 4-year contract starting from 1 July 2015, with a hiring budget of 547 million.
