BMA to spend Bt48.4 million to improve Khao San

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has announced it will spend Bt48.4 million to improve the landscape of popular tourist destination Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon district, BMA deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said on Monday.

He said the project, which is aimed at boosting tourism in the capital, will put the road and sidewalks on the same level and the entire road will be paved with flame-finished granite slabs.

Sakoltee said the construction will start in October and the project will be completed in February.

The deputy governor added that the landscape improvement may expand to Ram Butree Road, Sip Sam Hang Road and Tani Road in the future.

As part of the landscape improvement, the BMA will build 240 vending stalls on the Khao San Road and probably distribute the stalls through a lot drawing system every year or two years.

The stalls will be allowed to operate from 9am to 9pm.

Mobile vending carts will also be prohibited from entering the road.
