Yesterday off the coast of Koh Tao a boat driver fled after hitting a British tourist with the engine of his boat. Police reports suggest that the young woman involved in the incident nearly lost her leg. She was taking part in a SUCBA diving course with other students when the incident occurred.
The turbine of the boat hit her leg while she and other tourists were swimming to shore, she suffered broken bones and severe bleeding. Rescue workers rushed her to a hospital in Koh Samui where she is now recovering. The captain of the boat, reported to be one Boonrord Klubnak fled the scene and is thought to be currently on the run.
Koh Toa is a Mecca for divers but has recently been at the centre of a media storm after several tourists have lost their lives on the island. Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found brutally murdered on the beach, British Christina Marian Annesley was found dead in her hotel room, although foul play was not suspected, a French tourists was found hung with his hands tied behind his back, a Swiss snorkeler was found dead in the water and a Norwegian diver was hit on the head by a boat propeller leaving her with substantial head injuries.
