Call center taking millions in bets busted in Thonburi
Police busted a call center in Thonburi on Friday that was taking millions in bets on football and the gambling game baccarat.
The raid was the result of a month long operation conducted by officers connected to police departments related to money laundering.
The call centre was the heart of a gambling operation run through four separate websites.
Some 30 officers armed with search warrants took part in the raids on two rooms in the luxury Smart Condominium in the Bang Khun Thian Road Soi 16 area of Rama 2.
A woman in charge – Phatraporn Patanaworakitkun, 25, – and six employees were taken into custody. Of these two were men and four women.
Ten computer notebooks and twenty phones were taken into evidence.
The staff were taking bets from both Thai and foreign customers. Among the bets were football and baccarat though other areas were also on the books and bets taken amounted to many millions in turnover.
