Ceremonies held to mark historic 70th anniversary of HM the King’s accession

The government this morning held an alms giving ceremony and prayer to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his accession as well as to mark the upcoming birthday anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen.

King of ThailandPrime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha traveled to the Grand Palace this morning to join his Cabinet, the Chairman of the National Legislative Assembly, Head of the Court of Justice, Military Top Brass and citizens in giving alms to 9 monks, led by the Supreme Patriarch of the nation, as well as to 770 newly ordained monks.

Afterward, the premier joined in a prayer devoted to Their Majesties the King and Queen.

Traffic around the Grand Palace was shut during the proceedings with throngs of yellow-clad citizens present for the occasion.

Bangkok Governor MR Sukuhumbhand Paribata led the capital’s administrators in a similar ceremony following the prime minister.

Today was the first time in Thai history that the Kingdom celebrated the 70th accession anniversary of its monarch as His Majesty the King is the longest reigning monarch in the nation’s history.
