Cyclone Roanu to bring storm weather, waves to Andaman Sea, rest of Thailand: Meteorological Dept

Small vessels are advised to remain ashore and monitor the weather closely with storm weather in the coming days expected to cause waves of up to three metres high, the Thai Meteorological Department has warned.

According to a weather alert issued last night, Cyclone Roanu will bring heavy rains to most parts of Thailand and stir the Andaman Sea as it looks set to move towards Myanmar and Bangladesh today and tomorrow.

cycloneThe North, Northeast, Central, East and upper South regions of the the kingdom will have a greater chance of heavy rains, so people in these areas are being warned of possible dangers of the rainstorm, the alert said.

The cyclone will cause rough seas in the Andaman Sea and the upper part of the Gulf, it continued.

“Owners of small boats have been told to avoid going out to sea next week due to the tidal waves which might be up to three meters high. Cyclone Roanu is currently in the Bay of Bengal and headed in a northeasterly direction at about 20 kilometers an hour. Winds near the eye of the storm are moving at about 75 kilometers per hour,” it said.

The Thai Met earlier this week put out a weather alert for the following provinces: Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Tak, Phetchabun, Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, Buriram, Sisaket, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
