Organisers confirmed yesterday that on June 5th to June 8th Koh Samui will play host to the Queens Cup golf tournament.
Bangkoh Airways are the main sponsors of the event, which is the sixth edition of the US$300,000 Asian Tour which will be held at the Santiburi Samui Country Club.
Prayad Marksaeng took the title last year when he came in one stroke behind after three rounds to win by three shots. The eight time Asian tour winner will not be here this year to defend his title as he has been chosen to play at the Japan Gold Tour’s PGA Championship Nissan Cup that falls on the same week. Players Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat are also unavailable.
The Queen’s Cup will be the second Asian Tour event in Thailand this year. The first was the King’s Cup in January won by Prayad.
The third event will be the US$750,000 Chiangmai Golf Classic from July 3-6.
In the meantime, the Professional Golf Association of Thailand will host the third leg of the PGAThailand Tour at Panorama Country Club next week.
Due to economic and political problems, the total purse has been reduced to one million baht from two million baht.
