DDC Director General opens activities to mark ASEAN Dengue Day 2017

Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) Jessada Chokdamrongsuk presided over the opening of a campaign against dengue to mark ASEAN Dengue Day 2017 under the “United Fight against Dengue” slogan at Plabai plaza in Krabi province.

The objective of this year’s ASEAN Dengue Day is to promote public-private collaboration to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes.

According to a recent survey, there are more than 69,000 dengue patients in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. The death toll was 57.

Thailand recorded a total of 11,000 dengue patients with the death toll of 21 people during January to May this year.

The DDC Director General urged the public to keep their houses clean and make sure that there are no dark corners where mosquitoes can take shelter. He also suggested the general public to cover water containers in and around the house with lids, in order to eliminate the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
