Driver nods off leaving 44 students injured as bus overturns in Kamphaeng Phet

Forty four students returning to Bangkok from a camp in Chiang Mai were injured when the driver fell asleep at the wheel in Kamphaeng Phet.

another-bus-crash-thailandDriver Bankert Bunjan, 42, said he had left Bangkok Tuesday to go and get the students. On Wednesday afternoon he reached the camp and immediately drove back to Bangkok, reports Daily News.

The accident occurred in the early hours of this morning on Pahonyothin Road in the Ang Thong sub-district.

He told police he fell asleep at the wheel before colliding with a roadside souvenir sop and overturning. The bus ended up on its side.

Most of the students suffered bruising to legs, arms and faces. None was seriously hurt. They were all taken to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital.

The driver was detained for further questioning.
