On Thursday at the Samui provincial court it was ruled that the evidence against the two Myanmar migrant workers in the Koh Tao murder case can be independently by the defense team.
The accused Zaw Lin and Wei Phyo have pleaded not guilty to killing Hannah Witheridge and David Miller on Koh Tao in September last year. The two have been in custody in Samui provincial jail since last October facing charges of rape, murder and theft.
The trial is due to start in July and if found guilty the men could face the death penalty. However the defense team have long voiced their concerns over the quality of the investigation and claim that the scene was contaminated. In light of their fears they asked the court to allow them to commission their own independent scientists and experts to check the evidence. This request was granted. Members of the public who were allowed into the court were also allowed to raise their concerns and ask questions with regards to the two accused having a fair trial.
