Foreign beggars moved off the streets of Pattaya

The Mirror Foundation in Bangkok is an NGO specializing in urban problems, who have recently received a lot of complaints from Thai citizens with regards to the high numbers of foreign beggars on the streets of Pattaya. In response, together with the Pattaya police they have now carried out and operation to ride the streets of beggars from Cambodia, many of them children.

In total fourteen Cambodians were detained, eight adults and six children between the ages of ten months and sixteen years. Bt2,885 was seized from the beggars none of whom had passports. The beggars seem to have crossed the border in the Sa-Keo province, a popular entry point for illegal Cambodians.
