Police were called when a French man took out his frustrations on a bank ATM in Hat Yai after the machine swallowed his card.
Then he claimed that bank staff just smiled and remained inside when he tried to explain his problem.
David Elfassi, a programmer, lost his temper at the Bangkok Bank branch yesterday afternoon storming out of the bank to aim two hefty kicks at the machine. Staff called the cops to help them sort it out.
Staff said that they had explained the procedure for retained cards to the customer. They would need to contact head office and were unable to simply open the machine themselves and give him his card back.
There had clearly been a breakdown of communications between the staff and the customer.
Mr Elfassi said he explained his plight and the staff just smiled so he went out and kicked the machine.
The bank decided not to press charges and Mr Elfassi will get his card back on Tuesday.
The Sanook report did not explain what language was used by the bank or customer.
