Richard was cremated at the Wat Tai Temple, in Pattaya, today at t 1pm. It is thought his ashes will be returned to the UK for a family service. The 46-year-old, whose Mystique show ran for many years at the Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, died on March 10 while on holiday in Thailand with partner Marc Lawlor.
Richard, who was based in Thornton, suffered a massive heart attack in hospital, having been admitted several days before suffering from pneumonia. He leaves behind father Chris, 73, mother Christine, 72 and sister Philippa, all of whom live in Harwood, near Bolton. The entertainer joined Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 1995, performing in Mystique for 13 years, and then had his own show, Beyond Belief. He had been due to start a new show at Viva showbar in Blackpool.
Blackpool Council is formally to offer its condolences to Richard’s family, after tributes were paid to the entertainer at a meeting of the full council on Monday.
And there have been tributes from across the world of entertainment, in Blackpool and beyond, following the news of his death.
Amanda Thompson, managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said: ““All the Mystique dancers and singers have been in touch, and everybody is saddened by this news and their thoughts are with his partner Marc and Richard’s family.”
Blackpool-based magician, Martin Scott Price, said he was a “magical ambassador” for the town. Former Brookside actor Sam Kane tweeted: “A lovely man and an amazing magician.”
