According to a report in the UK’s Daily Mail Le Meridien in Chaing Mai sent a letter to its guests to explain that a nationwide curfew was in place due to the military takeover that meant guests would not be permitted to leave the hotel between the hours of 10pm and 5am. However to make up for the inconvenience and lack of information about the situation the hotel reportedly offered free wifi so guests could access news reports as well by extending happy hour.
Signed by Gregory Anderson, the general manager, the letter read: ‘We will provide further updates however we suggest that you keep in contact with internet news for access to latest information. To assist high-speed internet will be complimentary throughout the hotel.’
It added: ‘We have also arranged an extension to “happy hours” refreshments from 6.00pm to 12 midnight at Latitude 18 located in the lobby.’
The hotel’s note was posted to Facebook and reported by Business Insider as tourists were informed that they had to abide by the curfew imposed following the military takeover.
