Two men from India were arrested in Koh Samui on Thursday and charged with trafficking crystal methamphetamine that weighed 12.3 kilos said to be worth an estimated $1.4 million.
Puran Singh 41 and Virdi Hardev Singh flew in to Samui from Chennai in southern India via Singapore with the drugs in their luggage, mistakenly believing that security at the island’s international airport would be less stringent than those in the countries capital Bangkok. The duo had previously visited the island to scope it out as a trafficking rout. The men had expected to meet a courier at the airport who would transport the drugs to Bangkok, instead they were arrested.
The suspects, who both confessed, could face the death penalty if they are convicted.
