DNA test conducted by the Police hospital has cleared the son of the influential village headman on Koh Tao of any involvement in the murder of two British tourists on the island in mid-September.
Mr Woraphan Tuvichien, the headman of Koh Tao, voluntarily took his son, Mr Warot, to the police to have DNA tests to prove his innocence after it was widely circulated in the social media that the young man might be involved in the murder.
Result of the Police hospital’s test showed that the DNA of Mr Warot’s tissue sample did not match with the DNA of the criminal suspect found in the body of one of the two victims, Ms Hannah Witheridge.
However, Pol Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri, the police spokesman, said that police were waiting for the results of DNA tests from three other institutes namelyP Chulalongkorn, Ramathibodi and Siriraj hospitals. He expected the results tomorrow (Saturday).
