Kazan Baran brings Uzbek cuisine to Samui

Kazan Baran has opened in Maenam just a stone’s throw from Zazen and brings a interesting cuisine that has not been explored on Samui before. Having never tried the wonders of Uzbekistan’s cuisine it was with a sense of excitement that I sat down and started perusing the menu.

uz food 2The first thing that you will notice about Kazan Baran is the fantastic traditional colours and designs on the walls. This is very well complimented by the colourful table cloths and the beautiful plates. The second thing that stood out was the pricing and in a good way. Food prices are extremely fair, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. Drinks prices are also very decent with a glass of house wine only setting you back 100 baht. It’s worth mentioning that the menu isn’t enormous, but you will definitely be able to find something to suit your tastes.

To start off with, we decided on the delicious lamb filled Samsa and Shurpa traditional soup. Both dishes were delicious and hearty and set the mood perfectly for what was to come. For uz food 4a main course chose the Kazan-Kebab which is lamb and potatoes cooked in Uzbek cooking pot, as well as Lamb and Chicken Shaslik, the delicious Uzbek style kebabs. We also had baked potatoes that are then fried in a cauldron. All this was accompanied by delicious Masti, a kind of stuffed dumpling  (filled with lamb and a vegetarian option) that was filled with pumpkin. Overall ever single dish was tasty and nicely presented.

At the end of dinner we were truly satisfied, satiated and smiling. Whether you’ve never tried Uzbek cuisine or craving it, Kazan Baran is truly recommended.
