On August 9th at 9.30am Mr Praserd Jitmung, Koh Samui District Chief Officer, along with members of volunteer organizations planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings at the Nasai mangrove swamp in Talingnam in honor of Mothers Day and the Queen Kirikit’s 81st birthday on the 12th of August.
The hybrid seedlings came from the forest protection unit in Donasak and are vital to the preservation of the mangrove that was close to depletion. Mangroves are an important food source for fish and act as a nursery for aquatic larvae and help to maintain the ecological balance of the coast like and provide a habitat for several animal species. They also play an important role in protecting the coast soil erosion and protect the shoreline from storm damage.
