Miss Thailand has stepped down over her ‘execute red shirts’ comment

On Monday Miss Universe Thailand renounced her title over anti red shirt remarks she made on social media sites including the one that read- red shirt activists, supporters of ousted prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra should all be executed.

Miss Universe Thailand Weluree Ditsayabut, 22, speaks during a news conference at Renaissance Hotel in BangkokWeluree Sitsayabut, 22, was only crowned Miss Universe Thailand last month, however the comments she made on social media sites were soon unearthed, on her facebook account she penned “I am so angry at all these evil activists, they should all be executed”. Tearfully she told reporters that she could not handle the vitriol directed towards her on twitter and Facebook.

“I felt under pressure, I tried to improve myself, but what I could not stand was to see my mother so stressed” she said. “I have decided to sacrifice my status as Miss Universe Thailand.

It is unclear whether the first runner up, Pimbongkod Chankaew will replace Weluee as Thailand’s representative at the global competition Miss Universe 2014
