Mystery corpse in river had 20 kg weight tied to his ankle

Medics were called to the Mae Klong river in Samut Prakarn yesterday after a corpse was seen floating.

The man wearing black shorts and a grey and black t-shirt had a 20 kilogram weight tied to one ankle with a cord.

The weight is used either to weigh fish or to act as a weight to sink a fishing net.

There was no identification on the corpse – the body had been in the river at least two days and was decomposing.

The man was about 30 and had facial wounds and cuts on one arm, said Samut Songkhram police investigating. There was also two letters tattooed on the chest.

The body was hauled onto the bank next to the temple of Wat Yai Ratchapong after medics used a small boat.

Police said at least two people must have been involved in the man’s death.
