Members of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) have traveled to Surat Thani to meet with members of the public and take in their views to inform government policy.
Surat Thani Governor, Uaychai Innak received the NLA group, led by Adm Tawee Pongpipat, at Rajabhat Surat Thani University. The session saw up to 400 locals of the province turn up to voice their opinions to the NLA. It also involved the group breaking into seven teams to hold on-site inspections such as to see waste incineration on Koh Samui, to meet with hoteliers, to speak with women’s groups and to hear about issues plaguing farmland.
The NLA contingent also sat down with local administrators to discuss problems they are facing and possible solutions. Topics discussed were land ownership for impoverished families, falling rubber prices, waste management and problems plaguing the region’s youth. All of the information gathered will be used by the NLA to influence policy.
