Organic Thailand to generate electricity from garbage in Mandalay in Myanmar

Organic Thailand has been allowed to invest in a project for generating electricity from garbage in Mandalay, according to the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC).

The 15-megawatt project is to be implemented in the southern part of the city. Its electricity will be distributed to the truck terminal, the crematorium, warehouses and water treatment plants in Amarapura Township. If production of electricity increases, power will be supplied to garbagenearby villages.

“We will sign a 30-year contract under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) system. We will supply electricity to the truck terminal and crematorium first. Then it will be distributed to nearby villages at a certain price,” said Tun Kyi, a member of the MCDC.

In addition to generating 15 megawatts of electricity, the project will reportedly produce 12.5 tons of compressed bio methane.
