Passenger vans required to register for yellow license plates

Authorities are urging more passenger van operators in the country to register for a yellow license plate before the end of the deadline.

The yellow license plates are permitted exclusively for public transportation vehicles. The vans will be divided into three categories, which are vans operating in Bangkok, in other provinces, and those currently contracted by a company that obtained a license from the Land Transport Department.

Local police also said that within the past month, a total of 90 van operators were arrested for breaking the new regulations and 57 were apprehended for not having proper licenses. Police noted that the number of arrests is decreasing, as more operators comply with the law.

The move is in line with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)’s policy to reorganize the public transportation system.
