Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan has called for all entertainment venues to close today through Sunday night (Oct 16) as the nation mourns the passing of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Thursday.
The request was handed down at a meeting with law-enforcement authorities, including police and civil defence volunteers, at Provincial Hall yesterday morning (Oct 14).
Governor Chokchai stressed that the “request” was not an order. “The idea is to allow people who work in the venues to have a chance to pay respect to HM King Bhumibol,” he said.
Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Teeraphol Thipjaroen confirmed to The Phuket News that police across the island will be upholding the request.
Governor Chockchai this morning noted that he did not expect entertainment venues to close for an extended period.
“All public festivities are prohibited for 30 days. During this time officials will be strictly monitoring entertainment venues,” he said.
“After the 30 days, we’ll see what the situation will allow. I believe all people understand the need for this and will cooperate,” he said.
