The Prime Minister has confirmed that the planned general election will take place within the time frame set in the national reform road map.
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Wednesday that the drafting and the enactment of 10 organic laws related to a general election will be completed by the deadline and that planning for the national poll should start around the beginning of next year.
Gen. Prayut said that these steps are within the time frame and in accordance with the interim Constitution, which requires other elements such as the setting up of the Election Commission, the application process for candidates and the launch of election campaigns.
The PM added that the rights and freedoms of the people, as mentioned in the Constitution, should not mean that anyone can do anything they choose, as all acts must be governed by organic laws in order to to help maintain national security and other people’s livelihoods.
