Russia has expressed its interest to purchase more farm products such as rice and rubber from Thailand.
Offer to buy from Thailand was made during a courtesy call on the Thai Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan at the Government House by Russian Ambassador to Thailand Mr Kirill Mikhailovich Barsky yesterday.
At the same time, Thailand also proposed to form a joint panel to discuss the plan and suggested the sales should be made on a government-to-government basis for transparency.
The courtesy call was made as Thailand and Russia are set to celebrate the 120th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2016.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation on trade and investment.
They agreed to foster bilateral military cooperation through exchange visits of military personnel between the two countries at various levels.
Gen Prawit confirmed that he would attend an international meeting on anti-terrorism to be hosted by Russia in April.
He also thanked Russia for understanding Thailand’s situations and for supporting the interim government’s roadmap to achieve national reconciliation and its reform efforts to help Thailand return to democracy.
