The Save Koh Tao Festival 2014 is taking place from today 17th to the 19th of June and is intended to promote ecological issues among both locals and travellers in this famous diving destination.
“The main objectives of the Save Ko Tao Festival 2014 are to strengthen the reputation of Koh Tao as one of Thailand’s premier island destinations as well as to raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation. Green tourism is indeed the primary focus of Koh Tao’s development from now and into the future,” explained TAT governor Thawatchai Arunyik.
The festival will include a range of free educational activities, including beach litter picking and clean-up dives. The ‘One Free Day’ initiative will urge tourism businesses on Koh Tao to devote one of their free days to environmental initiatives, and a tie-up with the island’s dive schools will encourage them to incorporate CSR initiatives in their packages.
Locals and visitors will also be invited to take a bike ride around Koh Tao, while workshops will be held to educate locals about environmental management. Finally, a photo exhibition will display aerial shots of the island.
“We aim to create a wider eco-awareness among people visiting the island and encourage everyone to take part in saving the Koh Tao’s precious natural resources and pristine environment. The festival is a great opportunity for all of Koh Tao’s visitors and residents to come together and participate in all activities.”
