Social Development Ministry to offer first-ever guide dog services

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security have signed an memorandum of understanding with the army and Charoen Pokphand Group, to offer the first-ever guide dog service to the visually-impaired in Thailand.

The initiative is aimed at improving the well-being of the physically-challenged. The army will arrange for personnel to complete guide dog training overseas, to subsequently teach blind people selected by the Thailand Association of the Blind how to command guide dogs. The Charoen Pokphand Group will be the supplier of canine food.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has been assigned to cooperate with similar organizations within the country and overseas in the importation of guide dogs and dog trainers as well as any necessary equipment. The government also plans to establish a guide dog service center in the near future.
