The Meteorological Department today issued the latest warning of danger from heavy rains, landslides and flashfloods in the southern region now still inundated by floods in some areas.
The presence of the system would strengthen the northeasterly wind flow now covering the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region.
As a consequence, it said increased rains are expected in the South from January 16-18 with heavy rains in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
It said that afterwards, or from January 19-20, heavy rains will be expected in some areas, particularly Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang and Satun.
Residents in these areas are to brace for possible flooding, flashflood, and landslides.
In the Gulf of Thailand, the sea will be rough with 2-3 metres high wave expected. Fishermen are advised to sail in the sea with caution.
Small boats should be left ashore, it said.
