Forest police and administrative officials have joined forces to reclaim encroached areas of forest in Koh Pha Ngan District in Surat Thani Province.
The special operations unit called Phaya Sua has seized three land plots in Ban Hat Yang Forest which is to be declared part of Than Sadet–Ko Pha Ngan National Park. The land plots, covering 113 rai and one ngan, were earlier illegally turned into oil palm, bamboo and rubber plantations.
A bungalow and two houses built on the land were also confiscated. Two Myanmar workers were arrested. The pair said they were hired by Mr. Prakong Klaharn to tend to the plantations and animals. Each of them received a salary of 6,000 baht per month. Officials will carry out background checks on the land and its properties.
