The ball drop in Time Square in New York has long been the mainstay of New Year’s Eve celebrations Now this sparkling ritual has come to Thailand. This year Bangkok is set to host the world’s tallest ball drop with a ball that will fall sixty four stories from the top of a luxury hotel.
CEO of Lebua Hotels and Resorts Deepak Ohri said, “This is an opportunity for Thailand to join the likes of other countries, and have an iconic New Year’s celebration of all if its own The golden top of the Dome, the Towers Club’s signature dining destination, has been long time icon of Bangkok’s skyline The ball drop, which is set to become an annual event is now poised to be another”.
Ohri believes that the ball is the hotels “gift to Thailand” in a statement he said the ball weighs 1.2 tons, measures 7 feet wide and combines 2,950 LED lights, 50 strobe lights, a steel frame of 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons and is covered with translucent fabric.
Ten seconds before midnight the Bangkok Ball will make a 49 foot decent from a pole on the top of the Tower Club at Lebua. When it reaches the bottom another LED sign reading 2014 will be lit along with huge firework display over the Chao Phraya river.
Dinner guests at the al fresco restaurant Sirocco, that sits atop of the Lebua will enjoy front row seats to the spectacle along with a lavish meal that includes foie gras, oysters, black truffles, blue lobsters, wagyu beef and cherry blossom desserts.
