Spirit altar suspected as ignition point of fire that destroyed Thalang duplex

The owner of half-a-duplex in Saku’s Moo 3 that was compromised by flames this morning suspects the fire started at a spirit alter inside his home, police saida,

fire caused by spirit alterSaku Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) were alerted to the fire at 8.40am this morning, and dispatched their own firetruck, while requesting additional support from two firetrucks from the Port Authority’s firefighting unit, based at the airport, as well as another firetruck from the Mai Khao OrBorTor.

As a large crowd of residents watched on from safe distance on the street – many taking smartphone pics to share on social media – it reportedly took firefighters operating the four firetrucks about 45 minutes to completely douse the flames.

The owner of the house, named as 45-year-old Mr Pragorp Panyawai, gave report to Thachadchai Police that he was in the kitchen with his elderly mother in the back of the house at the time the fire ignited from the area of a spirit alter in the front of the house.

Mr Pragorp and his mother evacuated safely before the engulfed the front room, completely damaging the front of their side of the duplex, and thought to compromise the integretity of the entire structure, with damages initially estimated to be between B500,000 and B1,000,000.

It is understood that the second duplex, which was not directly damaged is occupied by relatives of Mr Pragorp, and police are investigating whether the fire ignited from an electrical malfunction or from candles or josssticks.
