Thai social media was full of praise for a group of senior school pupils who helped save the life of a young Chinese man who was threatening to jump from Taksin bridge in Bangkok.
He had tried to put a 1,000 yuan and a 500 yuan note in their hat which the boys thought strange and wanted to give back because it was too much.
Then he tried to give them his phone, said a representative of the group Sitthichart Maliwan who is in the last year of secondary. “He said ‘who cares’? He wouldn’t be needing that now”.
Sitthichart explained that after this the man, aged about 30, was threatening to throw himself off the bridge. Himself and his mates, nine in total, went to talk him down.
Utilizing Mandarin skills learnt since kindergarten Sittichart and his pals were successful in helping the Chinese man until police and other authorities arrived.
Cops said the man had made an earlier attempt at suicide during the day but after calming down he was allowed to leave the Kannayao police station.
The second attempt occurred about 9pm when the boys helped out.
Daily News were full of praise saying “you don’t need to be an adult to be a hero. If you have goodness in your heart”.
Netizens agreed and heaped praise on the Thai students for their actions.
