Suspects in the Koh Tao murder case refused bail at Samui Provincial Court today

Eyes from around the world today (Wednesday 26th November) were on the Samui Provincial Court to find out if the judge would authorize Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo (Win) temporary release on bail guaranteed by the Myanmar Embassy Officials after a statement made to the court last Thursday (20th November) by the prosecutors showed no opposition to a bail request. The prosecutor said that he had no opposition to the accused requesting bail however the decision would lie with the court.

Today an application for bail was made by the accused defense team after the Myanmar government prepared the two million baht bail fee, however it was not needed as the court rejected the bail request outright and cited that the accused are non Thai and therefore a flight risk and that the nature of the offence the men are accused of carry a high penalty.

Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo (Win) were detained for a further 12 days on the 20th of November, it remains to be seen whether they will be remanded for a further 12 days on December the 2nd.
