Facebook activated its Safety Check feature on Thursday night after two bomb explosions rocked the seaside resort of Hua Hin.
The feature was put into use during the deadly attacks in Florida and Nice.
Facebook Safety Check automatically sends users a notification asking if they are safe. When the user click ‘yes, let my friends know” the tool notifies their Facebook friends.
The explosions happened around 10pm and 10:20pm on Thursday in the Soi Bintabaht area of the town, which is lined with beer bars and restaurants and is popular with both expats and foreign tourists.
Police confirmed a local street food vendor was killed, while other unconfirmed reports suggest as many as 23 people were also injured, including a number of foreigners.
Police said they are still investigating the motive behind the bombings but did confirm that all the casualties resulted from the second bomb blast, as people went to investigate the scene of the first explosion.
Earlier on Thursday, a bomb explosion in the southern province of Trang left 7 people injured, while police in Phuket also investigate two suspicious devices found in Patong.
