THAI adjusts and reschedules flights between Bangkok-Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong festival

Thai Airways International has decided to cancel some flights and to adjust many other flight schedules to northern provinces during Loy Krathong festival between November 14-16 for fear of safety risk posed by sky lanterns or small hot-air balloons.

Thai airwaysTHAI’s president for safety affairs and aviation standard, Cpt Pratthana Pattanasiri, said Thursday that sky lanterns released by Loy Krathong celebrants might pose safety risk to flights and, hence, it was necessary to adjust flights and to cancel some flights during the period in order to maintain high safety standard.

Flights to be cancelled include TG120 from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and TG 121 from Chiang Mai to Bangkok during November 14-15.

Flight schedules to be adjusted include TG 116 on November 13 will leave Bangkok at 3.20 am instead of 5.20 pm; flight TG 117 on November 13 will leave Chiang Mai at 5.20 pm instead of 7.20 pm; TG 120 on November 13 will leave Bangkok at 3.50 pm instead of 6.40 pm; TG 121 on November 13 will leave Chiang Mai at 5.50 pm instead of 8.50 pm; TG103 on November 14 will leave Chiang Mai at 9.55 am instead of 10.05am; TG 105 on November 14 will leave Chiang Mai at 12.05 pm instead of 10.40 am; TG 116 on November 14-15 will leave Bangkok at 3.50 pm instead of 5.20 pm; TG 117 on November 14-15 will leave Chiang Mai at 5.50 pm instead of 7.20 pm.

THAI also decided to increase flights for travelling between Bangkok and Chiang Mai and vice versa.
