The Ministry of Labor is confident that Thailand will receive an upgrade in the U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report within the next three months.
Ministry Spokesperson Teerapol Khunmuang said that Thailand has submitted a new progress report to the U.S., after relevant agencies were told to ensure that every human rights law was not being compromised.
It was a move aimed at solving issues related to human trafficking and illegal migrants more comprehensively. Mr. Teerapol is positive Thailand’s ranking will improve when the report comes out in June. After working alongside the European Union on the issue, the country is expected to amend its law and enforce harsher penalties for human rights violations.
Several new changes to existing laws are now being considered by the Office of the Council of State. They will later be proposed to the National Legislative Assembly for consideration.
