The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) is planning to turn Thailand into an ASEAN hub of justice affairs, after joining the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program Network (PNI) last week.
According to TIJ Director Kittipong Kittayarak, Thailand’s membership in the PNI became effective after the institute signed an agreement with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Austria on May 24.
Having become a PNI member, Dr. Kittipong said Thailand will have an active role in the global community, particularly in fields related to legal developments and the improvement of the justice system for UN members nations.
The TIJ will incorporate international guidelines into the Thai justice system for greater transparency, allowing independent watchdogs to probe its integrity. The TIJ will also prepare Thailand to become a hub for a strategic movement to stop crimes against women and children, as well as to promote social unity.
