Thailand will allow second DNA test for suspects of the Koh Tao murders

Today (Wednesday 29th) it has been reported that Thailand’s premier will allow Win Zaw Htun and Zaw Lin, the two suspects in the Koh Tao murder case to have another DNA tests.

The two were arrested after the police said they had a DNA match from the migrant workers to the body of one of the victims, they also said that the men confessed.

The murder investigation has attracted widespread criticism both within Thailand and overseas and allegations have been made that the police were using the two men as scapegoats. The Thai authorities have strongly denied this allegation, insisting that the case has been built on solid evidence and a DNA match from samples taken from the female British murder victim’s body.

“We will allow suspects to take another DNA test,” Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting. “If they think that the previous tests were unfair we will conduct a second test.”
