Fish and chips is and will always be considered a true English classic, so it was rather fitting that the 3 finalist for Samui’s best fish and chips are all under British influence.
Third on the voting table was Premier Bar in Bangrak. With a nice large golden brown piece of fish served with lovely thick cut fries and very nice mushy peas, it’s a meal that is sure to please any Brit and make them feel like they are back at home.
Second on the voting table was the Larder. Two delectable little chunks of heavenly snow fish sit atop a fantastic pea puree along with delicious thick cut homemade fries, as well as a stunning tangy home-made tartar sauce. And even though it’s not the biggest portion, every bite is an absolute taste sensation.
First on the list was the very British Shakespeare. A beautiful slightly crispy golden brown beer battered fish fillet served with gorgeous home cut soft fried potato chips delivers very strongly in the taste and value for money departments and is most definitely recommended.
But at the end of the day there could really only be one, and no one deserves this title more than The Larder. While the others came very close in most departments, The Larder’s “Proper Fish and Chips” is simply perfection on a plate. If you haven’t tried it, get in your car or on your bike right this minute and get down there, I promise you’d want to kiss Chef Martin after tasting it.
