74 year old woman jailed for krathom and electrocution
Thongdee Jaemsri was sentenced to three years and four months by the criminal courts in March for growing commercial quantities of krathom, a type five narcotic in her home in Lat Phrao and causing death by electrocution.
However the appeal court has agreed to reduce her sentence.
Thongdee was growing Krathom, that is in the same category as marijuana and after several burglaries also installed a 200 volt electric fence around her house to protect it.
On February 2011 Maropi Langmea, a twenty year old student, tried to enter the property and was electrocuted.
The police found 41kg of krathom plants around her home.
Thongdee’s jail sentence was reduced to just three years because Maropi was in the wrong for trying to trespass on her land in the first place.
She is serving her sentence at the Klong Prem Women’s prison. Her daughter, who goes to visit her mother, said that her mother would not be bringing the case to the Supreme Court, but would rather seek a royal pardon and went to on say that her mother is very ill and suffering from emphysema and thyroid problems and has no interesting in continuing to fight the case.
