7,500 baht fine for driver who killed round the world cyclist

The driver of the truck who killed Guillermo, a Chilean man who was on a five year mission to cycle 250,000 kilometers across five continents to set a new Guinness World Record, has been fined 7,500 baht for the death. Truck driver Thiwarat Chaipidet, 64 will also serve one year in jail. Both his original fine and sentence were halved because he pleaded guilty.
Guillermo, 48, was completing the final leg of his five year around the world trip. The accident occurred at tambon Bua Lai in Nakhon Ratchasima. His wife and two year old son were also injured in the accident.
