The Thai Cabinet Committee has decided to take a firmer stance on advertisements that they say could instigate social harms and messages that reference the monarchy. They plan to issue laws and regulations to control such harmful advertisements.

Deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul says the committee has approved the draft ministerial regulations toward advertisements or services that might cause danger and harm to residents of Thailand. They also approved a draft proposal to rescind advertisements of alcoholic drinks and caffeinated drinks in movie theatres and on billboards. Other advertisements that will be prohibited include messages that reference giveaways or rewards from gambling, as per her statement.

The committee also decided that advertisements for condo units that haven’t been legally registered yet or have been registered without stating the details or providing plots of land and condo sales that don’t specify certain details as is required by law will also be forbidden. The draft also stipulated that messages and advertisements that reference the monarchy that do not have royal permission are forbidden.
