A man who allegedly kidnapped a young girl in Phuket in February was arrested in South Thailand on Tuesday. The victim, a 13 year old girl, has been reunited with her parents.

The suspect, 33 year old Somsak, allegedly kidnapped the girl on Rawai Beach in the main city district of Phuket, where she had been selling flowers. The girl’s mother reported the incident on February 9.

Chalong Police collected evidence and released a legal summons for Somsak, but he did not present himself to the police. The police then issued an arrest warrant for the alleged kidnapper for snatching a child not over 15 years old from their parents without a reasonable cause.

On August 16, police arrested Somsak in the Phipun district of Thailand’s Nakhon Si Thammarat province. He was taken back to Chalong Police Station for further legal proceedings.

This news comes after an attempted kidnapping of another young Thai girl in June. A Bangkok motorcycle taxi driver tricked a 17 year old student into using his taxi service, saying he would take her home after school. Instead, he kidnapped the girl and took her to a love motel where he tried to rape her.

The girl managed to flee, and the driver chased her, which lead to a screaming match between the two. Witnesses watched the pair scream at each other, and the driver then snatched the girl’s phone and fled the scene. Luckily, a witness recorded a video of the incident and handed it to the police as evidence, and he was arrested.
