‘Another day at The Office’ takes on a whole new meaning if you are island resident Steve, originally from New Zealand. The Office to Steve is his friendly bar in Bangrak. Steve opened his bar seven and a half years ago, a time when there were only six other bars in the area.
The success of The Office is down to several factors. Owner Steve is a friendly and personable guy with a sunny disposition and time for everybody that comes through his doors. The many island residents that drink in the bar are also very friendly and welcoming to new comers to the bar and to the island. This is certainly not one of those bars that goes quiet if a stranger pays a visit!
The layout of the bar makes it the perfect place to chat to old friends and of course new ones. There is plenty of seating inside, including a comfortable sofa, and the actual bar itself gives you the opportunity to chat to everybody, not just the people either side of you. There is more seating outdoors as well as a whopping 3 x 2 meter screen where you can enjoy all of your favorite sports while still being able to look up at the stars. There are 2 more big screens inside the bar and 2 smaller ones. Contrary to popular belief Steve loves all sports, so it is not just the rugby bar it has become known as. Steve does his best to screen anything you want to watch including darts matches and ice hockey! There is a board outside the bar that lists the matches and games due to be played.
Another key ingredient, literally, is honest to goodness, affordable pub grub. Steve is well known for serving up some fabulous burgers, fish and chips and bangers and mash. There is also a very reasonably priced Thai menu that will delight the taste buds of Thai spouses and girlfriends and the set menus for two, three and four diners offers a great opportunity to try a number of dishes for those that are new to the cuisine. Something else that is very popular on the menu is authentic Indian curry! Steve also lays on impressive BBQ’s when a big match or game is being screened.
Steve has a wide selection of beers and spirits as well as a good selection of non alcoholic drinks and bon café coffee. As you would expect the beers are ice cold and he serves house red and white wine.
On Mondays and Wednesdays there are some exciting pool matches to be played, watched and enjoyed as The Office is in both the Tropical Murphys Monday Night Pool League and the M&M’s Wednesday Night League of Gentleman League. On Thursday he hosts a pub quiz that is great fun and not so challenging that you will leave feeling silly. Anybody is welcome to join and if you don’t have a team you can join somebody else’s. The night is very light hearted, a lot of fun and free to join in with.
Another factor that makes an evening at The Office so accessible is parking. There is a patch of land behind the bar to park on as well as ample road side parking. The Office is open from 4pm until late and the kitchen closes around 11pm. The Office can be found at the Bophut end of Bangrak on the right hand side, heading towards big Buddha, before the first seven eleven store.Facebook.
