Anti-violence against women and children campaign 2014 launched

Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security hopes to build a strong society free of violence against children, women, and domestic disputes.
Social Development and Human Security Minister Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaeo presided over the opening ceremony of this year’s event to help eliminate violence against children and women, as well as domestic violence, under the theme, “The Power of Love Can Stop Violence: Start to Stop.”
The event took place at Hualampong Railway Station this morning, aimed at making society realise the problem of violence and to encourage relevant agencies to bring about more cooperation to stop all domestic violence in Thailandy.
The minister released two railway carriages adorned with artwork and signs against domestic violence, while passengers on board waved flags saying ‘No to Domestic Violence’ on both sides of the compartments.
The ministry will send flags to local social development and human security offices nationwide in order to localise the campaign in 1,000 subdistricts as pilot projects.
The minister said he believes that cooperation and coordination between the main office and local offices, together with relevant agencies in each area would help support and create better protection for domestic violence victims, as well as beig able to provide the quickest assistance possible.
The campaign should help local communities realise the gravity of the problem and provide more cooperation to try and stop violence against those who are weaker and to prevent domestic violence from taking place in any homes in Thailand.
