An Australian sustained serious injuries after he used a kitchen knife to slash his own throat in an apparent suicide attempt at a cafeteria on the third floor of passengers’ building of the Suvarnabhumi international airport on Sunday afternoon.

A room key of the Novetel hotel was however found in his possession. The Australian man was reported to have gone to the cafeteria on the third floor of the passengers’ building, took out two kitchen knives, each about 15 cm long, and slit his throat with one of the knives.

Other passengers at the cafeteria were shocked by the incident and alerted security officials who, shortly afterward, rushed to the scene, to try to restrain the man who, however, had already badly cut his throat.

The officials give his first aid at the scene and then had him sent to the Samittivej Srinagarind hospital for medical treatment. His condition was described as serious as he lost a lot of blood.

Police said they didn’t know the motive of the suicide attempt but had already notified the Australian embassy about the incident in order to try to locate his family.
